Best of 2007

I blatantly stole this idea from Greg’s blog, which I am absolutely alright with and have nothing better to come up with on my own today.

Book of the Year
I read a bunch of books this year, and it really comes down to two: Rant and Crooked Little Vein. Both books were absolutely incredible, but in the end I have to say that Rant by Chuck Palahniuk beats out Warren’s first novel.

Comic Book of the Year
I will break this down into subcategories.
Best On-Going Series: Fables by Bill Willingham.
Best Vertigo Book: Cairo. Even if you do not read comics, I think people should pick this up. It’s different.
Best Mindblowing Thing to Come Out This Year: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier by Alan Moore. As with the first two LXG books, you could spend years studying each panel and dissecting where each little thing comes from. As with the other books, this one does not just present itself in comic form. Moore writes one part in the form of an unfinished Shakespeare play, and some other interesting stuff tossed in there as well.

Best Movie of the Year

I think this one is pretty easy for me and you should all be guessing it right now. 300. I am sure some of you will disagree, but this is my list so screw you. Also though, Superbad and Knocked Up were both hilarious and very close to be being the best.

Alright, that’s about all I got, anyone care to share theirs?

  1. No, it’s like robbing a bank, photocopying the money, and then returning the actual cash. Err… I think. Or like stealing music over the intarwebs. In other words, it’s not actually stealing… because, you know, I was the first person to put together a Best of 2007 list and anyone else who does that owes me royalties.

    (Is Greg drunk or something?)

  2. haha…alright I will start a Greg’s Royalties account for this post. For every person who reads and posts a comment, I will put a penny into the account and then send it to ya.

My luck this will be the most read post ever in the history of blogs. I will get like 10,000,000 comments. I am going to say now that if more than 1000 comments happen, I will be screwed. Ten bucks is about all I can afford, haha.

  3. add a penny.

so…i looked back at super bowl predictions…and gideon might have a shot at being right, what is going on there?

    my year’s best:

    film:
    the departed

    reading:
    crimes of logic

    highlight:
getting a job for after graduation

somehow i have no idea about what is going on in culture right now…

i should have split this up more for the royalties…

  4. hey imler, the departed was an ’06 movie.

and my superbowl predictions? what do you mean “might have a shot?” they were correct the instant i typed them into existence. that’s just the kinda guy i am.

  5. Book of the Year
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, mainly because that’s the only book that came out this year that I actually bought. Usually I wait for the paperback to come out. Though I did also buy I Am America, And So Can You!, but I haven’t read it yet.

    Comic Book of the Year
    Who in the what now?

    Movie of the Year
This is always tough for me. Mainly because I find it unfair to differentiate between “best” and “favorite”. My favorite movie of the year I can never, with good conscience, list as the best, for one reason or another (silly script, plot holes, etc.). Anyways, my pick for “best” is Atonement, but my favorite is still Transformers.

    Game of the Year
Super Mario Galaxy. It puts the player under a spell that few modern games are able to mimic. You can just play for 5 minutes or an hour and have a blast. That Mario is one sexy beast, though if he had a portal gun, blades of chaos, and some decent deathmatch that game would be even better.
