I know all you Steeler fans are about to freak out on me, but hear me out. The Steelers have the toughest schedule this year, and they will lose some of those games. There is a chance they do not make the playoffs at all, or a chance they are tied with the Browns.

Anyways, as you can clearly see, I have no idea who will win, and 90% of these picks will be wrong. Give me yours, so we can look back and see who was at all close.

  1. First off, although the Steelers have the toughest schedule, the Browns play the same teams other than the 2 random games. I don’t know how or why the schedule creators decided to make the Steelers’ 2 random games against the Pats and the Chargers while the Browns got Oakland and..Buffalo? I forget, but they did and there is no use crying about it now. That aside, I believe even if the Steelers lose both those games, they will win at least 1 to 2 games more than the Browns in all the rest and there is a good chance they end up tied. If so, I think the Steelers beat them twice and win head-to-head. If not, some crazy tie breaker will probably come into play and the Steelers will get screwed…that said:

    Superbowl Cowboys over Chargers

There you have it. For some reason in the last few years I became a Cowboys fan and I definitely think Romo will not choke one of these years. I think Chargers/Cowboys would be one of the most exciting Superbowls since last year, so I’m looking forward to it. Also, this year I think the Steelers beat the Jags in the first round and give the Patriots a run for their money in the second…

  2. Offord…most of our picks are pretty close, hell we even have the same two teams in the superbowl.

That probably means the superbowl will be between the falcons and chiefs this year…

  3. Yes I am in. I’m Dont Call me Jack..if you can figure out where I get that name kudos to you. (it’s not a reference to any sort of media)

  4. I have absolutely no clue. Mine is a sex joke/rex grossman joke….

anyways, did you see a replied to your comment about the mvp race?

  5. Oh yeah. I got so excited about NFL picks I forgot to respond. Nady and Bay are both having career seasons and the more I think about it the more I think maybe trading them was actually a mistake. We got great value for them, but the idea that we were selling high might not be so accurate. If you think about it, the Pirates made outstanding trades to get those two, perhaps the only two good trades they’ve made in the last 10 years, so we basically washed those trades off the board, right? I think McClouth is a one season wonder who will hit .280 and 10 home runs next year, Adam LaRoche won’t ever be much better than .270 27 85, Sanchez and Wilson are aging and injury prone, Andy LaRoche is showing that a change of scenery isn’t changing his performance (see Drew Henson), Hanson sucks, Karsten is at best a number 3 starter, and then there’s Moss. I was really high on him, but will he ever be better than Bay? I say no, so basically we traded our lefty specialist and two of the best outfielders in baseball for people that may not help the team at all in the long run…I was so excited about the trade originally but after watching Nady and Bay succeed in a tougher league, it is starting to irk me. In conclusion, the Pirates will never win…not that we didn’t already know that (btw I just checked box scores from last night and saw the Pirates ended their losing streak…oh well, there goes our only chance to get mentioned on SportsCenter).

Back to the MVP race. If they want to award it to the best player they should come up with a new award for best player like in hockey, and name it after Jose Canseco for some reason, and keep the MVP for the player that was most important to his team success. If the team has no success then how did he help? Anyway, if it is being awarded for best player I still keep the same names in the conversation except I would add pitchers and move up Hamilton and Berkman for sure. I would change my awards to Pujols and Cliff Lee probably, or Pujols and Hamilton.

  6. As i have been finding lately with offords predictions, i completely agree with almost everything he is saying. However, i believe the commanding outliers of the patriots/colts/chargers is shrinking back somewhat and the other teams are catching up to them steelers/jags/jets/browns/broncos/and yes the texans in the AFC. In the NFC it’s still Dallas ahead by a lot, but the rest of the division could be interesting with the acquisitions on D for Minnesota and New Orleans also NO’s big TE trade makes them a favorite all the way around. Green bay will drop off without the veteran leadership of favre on a young team. Saints are the team to beat in the NFC South and Seattle is the strongest of the weakest in the West.

    AFC EAST: 1.Patriots 12-4 2.Jets 10-6 3.Dolphins 7-9 4. Bills 6-10

    AFC North: 1.Steelers 11-5 2. Browns 10-6 3.Bengals 7-9 4.Ravens 4-12

    AFC South: 1. Colts 13-3 2. Jags 11-5 3. Texans 8-8 4. Titans 7-9

    AFC West: 1. Chargers 14-2 2. Broncos 9-7 3. Oakland 7-9 4. Chiefs 5-11

    Wild Cards: Jags and Jets

    AFC Championship Steelers Beat Colts

    NFC East: 1. Cowboys 14-2 2. Eagles 11-5 3. Giants 10-6 4. Redskins 5-11

    NFC North: 1. Vikings 12-4 2. Packers 10-6 3. Bears 7-9 4. Lions 6-10

    NFC South: 1.Saints 11-5 2. Panthers 10-6 3. Buccaneers 8-8 4. Falcons 3-13

    NFC West: 1.Seahawks 11-6 2. Arizona 9-7 3. ST. Louis 8-8 4. San Francisco 6-10.

NFC Championship: New Orleans beats Philadelphia

    Super Bowl: Steelers beat saints

Now i do not pick the steelers simply because i’m biased. The steelers have been confusing offenses with their defenses all preseason with their 3RD STRINGERS, that i’m pretty sure that will continue into the regular season. The steelers D is what’s going to carry this team into the superbowl because our O-line is not going to protect ben or give fast willy running room. The Colts are really banged up and asking a lot from their aging veteran leadership, i was real close to picking the jags over the colts for their division due to the improvements the jags have allegedly made on offense and giving garrard some better targets and their defense is always fantastic. The patriots may have some good weapons on offense, but their defense is getting Older and i think father time will catch up to them. Right now I believe the Chargers are the team to beat but they are having a lot of super star studs coming off injury and their defensive spark plug is going to put “lights out” on his career with him playing on that knee, injuries are the only thing that keeps them out of the superbowl.

In the NFC as i said Dalls is the cream of the crop, but they are way too inconsistent in the playoffs, and though they had the acquisition on defense with adam “don’t call me Pacman” jones i don’t think it helped them that much, he may have made that secondary worse. Their offense will put up the most points in the NFL this season. The vikings are going to be the team in the North just because they’ve got it all together on Defense and the best running game in the League. Chew up the clock stuff ’em on D, wins championships all the time, but they will lose to the wild card team because no matter who the wild card team is this year, i guarantee they will have more playoff experience than this minnesota team, which otherwise would have been my pick in the superbowl, but this year goes to the Saints in the NFC. The saints are improved in their secondary and have made their linebacking crew top notch i think with the acquisition of Vilma. They already had one of the most potent offenses in the league and adding shockey just makes them better. They’re going to focus on keeping the big plays to a minimum on D since they’ve given up the most plays of 20 yards on more over the last 2 years, so instead i think they’ll be able to be run on, which is why i think the steelers would beat them in the superbowl.
The seahawks, i can’t really say much about them except they probably have the best Defense in the NFL and the smartest line backer in lofa totupu. Their running game i think is going to be a mess and they’re going to regret releasing shaun alexander for this year. Hasselback has no one to throw to especially since bobby engram is going to be out for the first couple of weeks in the season deion branch is always hurt and burlesons hands are as reliable as george w. in a 4th grade spelling contest. Hasselback is not a quarterback that can carry a team far into the playoffs, and it’s a shame too cuz i would like to see holmgren win one more before he leaves.

  7. Offord…I am not going to pounce on Andy LaRoche just yet, I think next year we will see the return.

There is no conceivable way that Xavier Nady puts these kind of numbers up next year, or ever again. I will bet my soul on it.

I know it seems bleak, but if the Pirates would have kept Bay and Nady, what would it take to make them contenders?

Honestly, would they go out and sign CC Sabathia, Sheets, Lackey? And I do not mean sign one of them, but they would need all three. Even with those three I would not guarantee a playoff. I mean, their middle relief sucks, Matt Capps is a good closer, but who knows what happens if he gets say 50 chances…

Bay and Nady were getting older, by the time the Pirates are ready to contend, those guys’ numbers will be in their decline phase. I would love to be wrong, I would love both of them to have great years up into their 40s, just do not see it happening.

  8. Offord…haha, sometimes I doubt that PEDs would help this team out.

Allison…really? He looks like this one deuschebag who comes into Mugshots…

  9. I’m cheating and doing this a week late. If I’m right at all, everyone can say I’m a cheating jackass for making my picks after Brady and Merriman died.

    AFC EAST
    Pats
    Jets
    Bills
    Dolphins

    AFC NORTH
    Steelers
    Browns
    Bengals
    Ravens

    AFC SOUTH
    Colts
    Titans
    Jags
    Texans

    AFC WEST
    Chargers
    Broncos
    Chiefs
    Raiders

    WC: Broncos, Jets

    NFC EAST
    Cowboys
    Eagles
    Giants
    Redskins

    NFC NORTH
    Vikings
    Lions
    Bears
    Packers

    NFC SOUTH
    Saints
    Bucs
    Falcons
    Panthers

    NFC WEST
    Seahawks
    Cards
    Rams
    Niners

    WC: Eagles, Cards

    SB: Colts over Cowboys

That’s such a poser pick for the Super Bowl. I hate myself for it.

Jeez, the NFC is so bad. I have the Cards in the playoffs and I don’t even feel that stupid about it.

  10. Jason…it’s funny you say that about the NFC because on the radio I heard someone saying that without Brady, the NFC might be the better league. That is why I love/hate talk radio…

  11. I’ve been meaning to go back and look at these predictions. I picked two eventual playoff teams to finish last. Not so smart, Jason.
