I hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving. I will be out at my Gram’s house eating great food (punch bowl cake, mmmm) and playing cards. Fun times.
Here is something for everyone to think about for a second. As you are sitting there gorging yourself on turkey and stuffing, listening to people tell you stories about their kids, remember what the Jewish Elf always says: “Everyone lies.”
I do not mean to sound like a jerk, but every time someone tells me a story about some clever or witty thing their kid says, I think back to my own father, who loved to edit his stories to make my brother or I sound much funnier. For example:
One time, he and I were going to our camp to do some hunting. We stopped at the beer distributor and the guy who worked there was a relative of ours, I think his name was Jack. This is how my dad tells the conversation between Jack and I.
Jack: You going to shoot some grouse? They are pretty hard to shoot when they are flying.
Me: They can fly?
At this point, everyone laughs. Here is how the conversation really went.
Jack: You going to shoot some grouse? They are pretty hard to shoot when they are flying.
Me: Uh huh.
Dad: They can fly!? Hahaha.
It is not as funny if he says, so he changes the story to me saying it and everyone gets a kick out of it. I always remember stuff like that, especially when someone tells me something about their kids. It does not make them bad people, I just never hear these kids say clever or witty things, therefore they must not be very clever or witty.
Anyways, here is a picture of the entire family from back in 2005. All us grand kids. You will not find a better looking family.
i appreciate the perspective shout-out!
No problem.
