NFL Predictions 2009

Tomorrow night is the beginning of football season, so I figured I should put my predictions up for the season. I did it last year and obviously was not really close. Maybe one day I could get a few teams right…

AFC East
Patriots
Dolphins
Jets
Bills

AFC North
Steelers
Ravens
Bengals
Browns

AFC South
Colts
Texans
Titans
Jaguars

AFC West
Chargers
Broncos
Chiefs
Raiders

Wildcard: Dolphins & Ravens

NFC East
Giants
Cowboys
Eagles
Redskins

NFC North
Vikings
Bears
Packers
Lions

NFC South
Falcons
Panthers
Saints
Buccaneers

NFC West
Cardinals
Seahawks
49ers
Rams

Wildcard: Cowboys & Panthers

AFC Championship: Chargers over Steelers
NFC Championship: Vikings over Panthers
Super Bowl: Chargers over Vikings

Looking back to last year, I only got 4 of the division winners, and none of the Wildcards. I was the only one to take the Cardinals to win the West though, so I should get some credit. Actually, I got the most division winners right, haha. That is funny because I put no thought into my picks.

Credit goes to Ryan for predicting the Steelers to win the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, he did not pull a Gideon and actually get the entire Super Bowl correct.

  1. Looking at our last 2 seasons of predictions makes you realize just how dumb we really are. A lot of times we make statements that we KNOW will be true…and they just aren’t even close. I blame Ryan mostly for that. Anyway, rather than post power rankings I’ll just post my predictions for now, which are once again in line with Josh’s. Maybe each year we should pick an AFC and NFC team that could shock everyone and be good, ala Miami and Atlanta last season.

Everyone is jumping off the Tennessee train? Do you really think Albert Haynesworth is the reason they were the best team in the AFC last year? I think even without him they will still win 9-10 games.

    AFC Championship: Patriots over Steelers
NFC Championship: Falcons over Green Bay
    Super Bowl: Patriots over Falcons

I think there are a number of teams in the NFC that have a chance to make it: Giants, Eagles, Cowboys, Vikings, Packers, Bears, Falcons, Saints, Panthers, Cardinals – so it is really a crapshoot at this point. I’ll take the Falcons just for the hell of it.

The AFC is less competitive, but the Steelers, Ravens, Patriots, Colts, Titans, and Chargers all have a chance. I’d pick the Steelers but if it comes down to a Pittsburgh/New England championship game, I give the edge to Brady.

My possible surprise teams are the Raiders and the Seahawks.

I hope we all can laugh about this next year again…

  2. You know…I looked back on the predictions and yes there were a ton of mistakes. None more glaring than the predictions of the jags and titans, but I have to say my reasoning behind everything at the end there with the AFC was almost spot on. NFC wasnt even close, Ill give you that.
