Fantasy Football Stupidity

I am terrible at fantasy football. I have no problem admitting it. I am good at fantasy baseball, in fact I know that going in each year, I have a very good chance of winning our league. That is not me being cocky, I just know my abilities. I would say that Gideon, Offord, Ryan, and I are all pretty equal at baseball (Ryan will say that he is better than us, because Ryan has a complex about being the best at everything).

When it comes to fantasy football though, I am pretty clueless on who to start each week. I try to look at match ups, but unless you are watching game film, how can you figure out which players will do well? Plus, pro football has crazy things happen all the time. The Chiefs could come out this week and blow the Steelers out of the water, it would shock, but it would not be unprecedented. Sorry, I am rambling.

Last week I decided to sit Steve Smith, mainly because he has not really produced. I lost to Ryan by six points. Smith had 15. Reggie Bush also had a bunch of points, but I had him benched as well.

I guess next year I will have to be better prepared (especially if I am in this league again, which I would like to be).

  1. One thing you can do to help is just look at rankings sheets online for each week. There are probably 5 or 6 easily accessible “expert” lists to browse through. I don’t make my decisions based on those completely, but it never hurts to check to back up your own opinion.

Granted, they are rarely right, but I don’t think anyone saw Bush having such a big day last week, so don’t beat yourself up about it.

And how awesome did Ricky Williams look last night??

  2. Yes Ryan, you are over-competitive. And you are better at fantasy football than me, I freely admit that, I just do not think you are better at fantasy baseball. I think we are equals. I know that every season we will be competing for the top spot.

  3. All I know is last year I was 5 for 5 making the playoffs in fantasy football, and this year I am looking good for 5 for 5 again. Unfortunately, I only won in one league last year, but I think this year I will take home 2 at least.

  4. Sorry, you should look at my team this week and tell me if I have a shot at winning, or if I should start some others…i need to win the next two to maybe make the playoffs.

  5. I don’t know what you can do. Your team looks like mine did before I lucked out on the Kevin trade. Manning, Grant, Smith, and Celek are legit starters, but Manningham, Jackson, and Wells are marginal at best.

I don’t think I will ever trust Manningham this season in a big game, but maybe other people do. Fred Jackson benefits from Lynch being out, but I think the Bills are going to start throwing more after the show they put on last week. Wells is a wildcard because, while he has been getting a larger work load, never really has a big statistical day. I think if Bush is healthy, he would be a better play than Wells.

Buckhalter is barely even a roster guy anymore. You could probably drop him and take a risk on someone. Garcon had a big week and takes on Houston next week. I think he might be a better play than Manningham, but that’s just me.

No matter what, it will be an uphill battle trying to take down Kevin P. He has a great team, but I’m rooting for you since I have an outside chance of winning the division.
