The Wise Man’s Fear

I recently finished the audiobook of The Wise Man’s Fear, the second book in The Kingkiller Chronicle.  I actually liked this one much more than the first book.  We got to see Kvothe’s transformation into a powerful individual instead of spending way too much as a victim.

The book starts off at the university, but after some battles with Ambrose and then a trial with the Iron Law, Kvothe takes a semester off and backpacks his way across Europe.  Okay, not really, he actually heads to another city to help the Maer Alveron court a woman.  Turns out that Alveron is one of the richest men in the world.  Kvothe discovers that he is being poisoned and saves the Maer’s life.

Kvothe then helps the Maer marry and rids the countryside of some bandits who were stealing taxes.  At this point, he goes to another country and learns how to fight like the Adem.  He also has an adventure in the land of the faerie creatures.

By the end of the book, Kvothe is a badass.  Now it is just a matter of finding out what happened to him that caused him to run away and open an inn.  How did he meet Bast?  Also, if anyone has read it, what did the Cthaeh tell Kvothe?  I was missing an entire chapter of the book and it turns out that it was a fairly important one.  I have the point where Felurian is making his shade and the next part is Kvothe returning to our world.  What the hell did I miss?

Also, the only thing that irritates me in this book is the whole Denna love story.  Sometimes I just want to smack Kvothe for being so stupid with her.
