Gettin’ Ripped!

Lindsey and I decided to join a gym.  We joined a few weeks ago and I figured now would be a good time to mention how it is going.  I figured it would be easier to start now and try to get in shape for our wedding, instead of waiting until six months before like most people do.

The gym we joined is just down the road from us, called Shape Shifters Fitness.  It is a nice place although I wish they had some more equipment, but whatever, it is practically the only gym in the area.

One of the things I decided to do differently was to start running.  I am out of shape.  My cardio is absolutely atrocious.  I am out of breath after five minutes of playing tennis with Lindsey.  The funny thing is that I have not ran since high school.  I used to work out in college, but I never ran.

So everyday I start out with 15 minutes on the treadmill.  This was funny on the first day because I actually had to ask Lindsey how to use the machine.  I have never been on one before!  After my workout I then do the Elliptical.

I am proud to say that after two and a half weeks, I have improved my pace each day on the treadmill.  When I started on the Elliptical, I could barely go five minutes on low resistance.  Each day I have made it a goal to add a minute or increase my total strides.  I am not at the level of some of the guys I see who spend 45 minutes at a dead run, but I am improving and that is all that really matters.

Maybe at some point I will be able to play a game of basketball without fear of having a heart attack.  That would be cool.  Also, does anyone know how to play racquetball?  They have a court at the gym and I thought that might be a good workout for us, you know to change it up during the week.
