Fantastic Four Casting

More news in the world of comic book movies.  Fox is rebooting the Fantastic Four franchise and they decided to cast new actors.  The movie is being directed by Josh Trank, who directed Chronicle, which I thought was a pretty good movie.

Kate Mara as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman)
I am okay with this choice.  I have always been waiting for her to be cast in a big comic book movie, so this really came as no shock.  As much as I love Jessica Alba, she was pretty terrible as Sue.

Miles Teller as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic)
I heard about this guy being Reed a few times and I have to say that I am unimpressed.  I guess he has been in some movies that were kind of funny.  I have not actually seen one of his movies.  From those terrible previews of That Awkward Moment though, he does not seem like Reed in my opinion.

Reed is not a funny character.  He is a nerdy scientist.  I always think of Doc Brown in Back to the Future, not the crazy appearance, but instead the way he responds to Marty’s “heavy” lines.  “There’s that word again. “Heavy.” Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth’s gravitational pull?”  That is Reed, is the straight man to the comedic elements of Johnny & Ben.

Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm (Thing)
Since this will be a costume and CGI, it does not really matter to me who they have play Thing.  I thought Michael Chiklis was pretty good.  Jamie Bell is not really that well known to me.  I know he has been in some stuff that I have briefly watched on TV.  Maybe.

Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm (Human Torch)
Chris Evans was absolutely perfect as Johnny. In fact, his performance as the hot-headed (sorry for the pun), impulsive, funny hero was what made me think that he could not pull off Captain America.  Luckily I was wrong, he was great as Cap.  I guess he is just a great actor.

Jordan was great in Chronicle and even better in The Wire.  He is a good actor and I think he can pull off the role.  I just have a question:  will he and Sue be brother and sister?  I guess he could be adopted.  I have no problem with them casting a black man for the role, but they should probably make some changes to the story.  I kept thinking of this scene from Lethal Weapon 2.
