How Does This Happen?

I saw this picture the other day of a car accident in State College.  The photo is from Nabil Mark of the CDT.  I keep trying to figure out how that could have happened.

The person is just cruising along the highway, hits an icy patch, and somehow drives up onto the guard rail.

I could understand if there was a section of the highway that was banked so that the guard rail was almost level to the road.  Unfortunately this is not the case here.  You can pretty much see that.  Unless the car went off the road much further back and then did a pretty sick grind across there.  Tony Hawk would be proud.
