Most people will acknowledge that Denis Leary took a bunch of Bill Hicks material. I guess the argument by pro-Leary folks is that they were friends and a lot of Hicks’ jokes were written by Leary. It really does not matter though. When you listen to Leary and then later to Hicks, you realize that Hicks was the true genius.
Back in the Leary post, I mentioned that I did not know he had a connection to Bill Hicks, so that means I learned about the deceased comic after I already heard Leary. I actually discovered Hicks in a fairly odd spot. I was reading a comic book. It was in an issue of Preacher that I first saw Bill Hicks.
At first I thought he was a made up person, but a quick search on the ole internet showed that he was in fact, a real comedian. I started watching all of his videos and quickly realized he was brilliant.
