Some Random Odds and Ends

Here are a few things that I have been thinking about the last couple days.  If you came by to read about 24, come back tomorrow.  I promise it will be here then…

Guardians of the Galaxy
How can people not be super-excited about this movie?  It looks like so much fun.  Plus they already show that it has a great soundtrack.  I am more pumped for this than most of the superhero movies coming up…

Deryck Whibley
Anyone remember Sum41?  The lead singer Deryck Whibley has a drinking problem.  I mean with great lyrics like this, is it very shocking?

Storming through the party like my name was El ninio
When I’m hangin’ out drinking in the back of an El Camino
As a kid, I was a skid and no one knew me by name.
I trashed my own house party cause no body came.

I know I’m not the one you thought you knew back in high school
Never going, never showing up when we had to.
attention that we crave don’t tell us to behave,
I’m sick of always hearing act your age.

It is definitely not funny.  The article above says that doctors have told him he can never have a drink.  That is how much damage the guy has done to his body.  Look how terrible he looks?  Would you guess that we are the same age?

Louie
I never really talk about Louie that much, but it is definitely one of my favorite shows on television.  The episode last night was excellent.  The funny thing about it though, the girl who plays Jane (Ursula Parker) should be nominated for an Emmy for her performance.

I know, she is just a kid, but when she and Louie are on the park bench and he is trying to get her to tell him what was wrong, it was a fantastic scene.  With her explaining that she just gets mad at her school for being so dumb.  She is smart and the school is just not teaching her anything.

Later in the episode she has a violin duet with Amia, Louie’s new girlfriend from Hungary.  I am guessing that was really Miss Parker playing the violin.  Seriously though, this little girl has a bright future on television.  That is my crazy prediction.

Interstellar
Another movie that I am excited about…I mean, c’mon, Christopher Nolan and Mathew McConaughey.  Obviously it will be awesome.

Cruel Intentions

I used to like this movie back in the day.  Granted, I was young and stupid.  I also loved Sarah Michelle Gellar.  It came on Cinemax the other night and I started watching it…wow.  It is so poorly acted and so stupid.  It was actually cringe worthy at times.

The scene where Reese and Ryan meet was probably the worst.  The acting was just so bad.  Actually there were other terrible scenes.  In fact, most of them were pretty terrible.

I was also shocked by how the film’s only gay character was so stereotypical.  The movie came out in 1999 and Ryan Phillippe blackmails the head quarterback by saying “what will your people think when they find out you’re a fudgepacker?”  I guess that stuff happens, but all the scenes with Joshua Jackson’s character seemed like what people who have never met a homosexual think of them.

Gregory Polanco

Clipped from http://whygavs.com/may-2014/the-final-vortex-of-all-gregory-polanco-discourse.html

This is a great article that really sums up how the discussion about Gregory Polanco should go.  Most fans like to scream about the Pirates being cheap, but almost all teams follow this same practice.  When a team with a huge payroll does the same thing, people call it smart or being prudent.  When the Pirates do it, they are being cheap and not worried about winning now.

I am excited for Polanco, but does him coming up to the Pirates right now mean they turn it around and rattle off 20 straight wins?  Probably not.  Look at how George Springer started off in the majors.  Give Polanco some more time in AAA, make sure he is fully ready, which he probably is now, but since we are at the odd point, you might as well wait until he is past the Super 2 point.
