Rant Time

Okay, I need to get a few things off my chest. I am tired of hearing about some outrage over something someone said about something else. I know, pretty vague. Be patient and I will get to it.

I am sure some of you heard about the big Michael Moore and Seth Rogen fiasco? You know, they said disparaging things about the movie, American Sniper. And naturally everyone freaked out. Allow me to start with Michael Moore.

MMexampleHave you seen this posted on Facebook? It all stems from something Moore posted on Twitter: “My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren’t heroes.”

He later clarified by saying that he was referring to Martin Luther King:

“Lots of talk about snipers this weekend (the holiday weekend of a great man, killed by a sniper), so I thought I’d weigh in with what I was raised to believe about snipers. My dad was in the First Marine Division in the South Pacific in World War II. His brother, my uncle, Lawrence Moore, was an Army paratrooper and was killed by a Japanese sniper 70 years ago next month. My dad always said, “Snipers are cowards. They don’t believe in a fair fight. Like someone coming up from behind you and coldcocking you. Just isn’t right. It’s cowardly to shoot a person in the back. Only a coward will shoot someone who can’t shoot back.”
Then we have Seth Rogen. He Tweeted about the movie saying “American Sniper kind of reminds me of the movie that’s showing in the third act of Inglorious Basterds.” I have seen his quote twisted to sound like he is saying that the movie reminded him of a Nazi propaganda film. Hmm, definitely not what Rogen was saying.
So what has me pissed off about these things? Well it is the same thing with the police. It is now “unAmerican” to criticize the police and soldiers. I love seeing all these things from soldiers to Moore or Rogen saying how they do not have the right to criticize Chris Kyle, since he put his life on the line to secure their freedom. Right, and one of those freedoms is the right to be critical. Just like it is the media’s right to blow things out of proportion.
What is next? Honestly, who knows. People enjoy a good outrage. Like I am sure a bunch of people will be outraged that I dared write this post. I will probably lose thousands hundreds tens of readers.
Okay, rant over.
