Memorial Day Reminder

Today is Memorial Day, which means most people have the day off and will be celebrating with cookouts and beer.  Try to remember the meaning of this day, to honor those who gave their lives for this country.

Now before you rush out to thank someone for their service, please remember that today is about those who have died. Veteran’s Day is to honor those who have served and Armed Forces Day is for those who are currently serving. No one will ever get mad at you for messing this up, but they may correct you and point out that it is not their day.

Quick rant though. If you truly want to help support these brave men and women, please pay attention to politics. I do not care who you vote for, but make sure you look to see how they are voting when it comes to veterans and the armed forces. If you see a bill coming up that would cut veteran benefits, call your Congressmen and let them know how you would like them to vote.

There are plenty of examples on social media of politicians using military folks as a campaign slogan and then voting against their interests. These politicians get away with this because voters do not care. Pay attention! There are apps out there that let you know about upcoming legislative votes and then tell you how your elected officials voted.

Okay, I will hop down off my soapbox.

Have fun and be safe today!
