Bolt Action Remedy

I finished J.J. Hensley’s book, Bolt Action Remedy recently. I should mention that I am not usually a big fan of crime fiction (which is odd, since I am a fan of true crime podcasts). Anyways, Hensley is a Pittsburgh blogger (okay, he was one, now he lives in Georgia). I decided to check the book out because he is a nice guy and I figured it would be a good thing to support a local author. I was not shocked to find that the book was very good (reading J.J.’s blog for a few years, I knew he was a great writer), but was more shocked by how much I liked it. I may have another genre to dip into when I am looking for something to read.

The book takes place in central PA, which was cool because the main character mentions many places that I am quite familiar (Bellefonte, Altoona, State College just to name a few). The story revolves around Trevor Galloway, who is a former cop, investigating a murder that may be connected to a biathlon training camp. The mystery is pretty deep and we get to learn a good bit about a sport that few people probably never think much about. After reading the book though, my respect for those athletes has went up 1000%. Galloway (such a central Pennsylvania name, especially for the area wrestling fans) is haunted by his dark past, which may actually come back to kill him.

I do not want to give anything away, so I will just stop there. If you are a fan of detective stories, mysteries, biathlons, or just great stories, then I suggest you check this book out. If you want to hear someone mispronounce Bellefonte, then definitely give the audiobook a listen! Bella-fontay. Makes me laugh every time someone says it that way.
