Payton’s First Movie

We have wanted to take Payton to a movie for awhile now. Unfortunately, she just did not seem interested. For the longest time, she would not sit still for a movie at home. After awhile though, she started to take interest in movies and would watch them for a bit then want to run around.

We decided that Lion King would be the movie. She loves the Lion Guard show on Disney Jr. and she loves going to the zoo and seeing the animals. We had her pretty excited about it and figured that going to daytime showing would be perfect.

We chose the 12:15 showing today and I assumed it would be pretty empty. I was wrong. There were probably thirty people there. I was nervous that she would start being loud or wanting to run around, which would piss everyone else off.

I think we made a mistake by going in a few minutes early. We should have went in right as the previews were ending. By the time the movie started, she had been sitting for a good 15-20 minutes. She watched the movie and ate her popcorn for the first half of the movie and was only a little fidgety.

After that though, she became bored. She did not want to sit anymore. Then she wanted to go home. So I took her out of the theater and we stood around in the hallway. She walked around, looking at posters and then said she wanted to go back in with mommy. We went back inside and she sat on Lindsey’s lap and played a game on her phone (don’t worry, it was on silent).

I thought the movie was pretty good. I do see the criticism of the talking animals being weird without there being a human involved (it worked so well in Jungle Book). I think if we saw something else, she may have been more interested.

I think we will wait a bit before we see another movie, most likely Frozen 2 in November.
