The Boys

I do not think I have ever been as pleasantly surprised about a show as I have been with The Boys. I only read the first graphic novel (or maybe the first two), so it was great coming into a show like this without much backstory. I did not think the show would be able to do so much of the stuff from those few issues I did read and yet…the show definitely delivered.

There will be a few spoilers from here on out…

Funniest part hands down has to be the dolphin scene from the fourth episode. When the Deep tries to rescue the dolphin and it ends up smashing through the window, then getting hit by a truck. I almost pissed myself laughing.

Another great Deep joke was when he is in Sandusky and his new handler makes a joke about Akron and says something like “what do you think we are, that shithole Akron?” That made me giggle.

Aside from being very funny, it was also emotional. The Annie/Hughie story was great. They were cute and when she finds out, it was heartbreaking. I may have gotten a little teary-eyed.

One of the cooler parts is that they got Simon Pegg to play Hughie’s dad. Pegg is who the comic based Hughie on, so that was a cool little nod. Also, Karl Urban was amazing as Butcher (seriously, Urban needs to be in more stuff). Actually, all the actors were fantastic.

And I just have to say…the ending was such a gut punch. I cannot wait until season two.
