Thiel College Commercial

I saw this commercial during Gameday and at first I thought it was just a generic college. Then I started looking at the shirts in the stands and noticed they said Thiel. I wondered if it was the same Thiel College that is south of Erie. And sure enough, it was. Turns out they are on a massive losing streak (is it seventeen straight?).

At first it seems like Coca-Cola is poking fun at them (“our kicker stubbed his toe on the ball” cracked me up), but then you realize the message is that no matter how much they lose, the fans will always support them. It definitely captures the beauty of college sports.

Fun fact, when I was looking at colleges in high school, I knew I wanted to move away, but could not afford out of state tuition. So the colleges I looked at were all about as far from Philipsburg as you could get. I visited Gannon and Edinboro. I was close to visiting Thiel and Temple (I am so glad that I did not go to a school in Philly).
