James Gunn, Josh Hader, and the Stupidity of the World

There is so much idiocy in the world. So it seems the new thing to do is search through famous people’s Twitter accounts and look for anything they could have said at any point in time that could be used to make them look bad. We saw two cases of that this week with James Gunn (the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies) and Josh Hader (the Brewers pitcher). Gunn was fired by Disney over things he tweeted over nine years ago. He made jokes that were not very funny and if you look at his tweets over the years they have definitely changed. Josh Hader made racist and homophobic comments back when he was 17 years old. People decided to drag these tweets out when Hader took the mound during the All-Star game, fans hate him now. He had to apologize to his teammates.

I am not going to sit here and say that people should not be held accountable for things they say online. However, there are some times when things get out of hand. Conservatives are looking for anyone they can crucify (they think that getting Gunn fired makes things even for Roseanne). It is hilarious to me how these conservatives are so offended by the jokes Gunn makes, but rush out to defend Milo Yiannopoulos. I think this comment about Gunn puts it all into perspective…

So James Gunn gets fired. Yay! Good job outrage police (and look, I realize this was started by some alt-right dickbag, but I have no doubt that liberals jumped all over this and demanded his head just as quickly). If I were a celebrity at the moment, I would be hiring some tech guy to scrub my social media content. Make sure I never even liked something that could be misconstrued. Also, if you are a tech person that could do this type of work, start marketing yourself.

Josh Hader was a dumb kid. What was he, 16/17 years old? A junior in high school. I cannot even imagine the shit I would have written on Twitter if it existed back then. My ICQ profile was full of Cypress Hill lyrics, mostly from the song “Dr. Greenthumb.” I didn’t even smoke pot. I just loved that song. I read Hader’s tweets, I could imagine him and his friends saying stupid shit like that to each because they figured no one would ever read them or care about what they had to say. Hader was not some highly touted pitcher at that time. He was drafted the next year in the 19th round. Do you know how hard it is for someone drafted that low to actually make it? I am not trying to excuse what he said. But, cut the guy a break. Before everyone goes on crucifixion duty, maybe ask his teammates if he is a racist? I feel like if he were, those guys would be pretty quick to jump on him. However, after he apologized, they were all there for him. You know why? Because they know the dude! They are with him all the time.

This is the world we live in now. The idiots on the right are looking for something to bring down people on the left and vice-versa. It is a war of stupidity.
