Kavanaugh Stuff

The Republican dream was achieved yesterday: the Supreme Court finally has a Brett! Yes, Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed by the Senate and will be a member of the highest court.

Naturally everyone on the left is taking this with dignity and grace. Just kidding. People are losing their shit over it. I have heard things like “well this is the end of our democracy!” or “Roe v. Wade will be gone tomorrow, looks like women will die!” Seems a little extreme.

Do not get me wrong, I think the Republicans should have forced Kavanaugh to withdraw his nomination. I get that they did not have the time to go through the process before November (do they really think they could lose the Senate? It seems like a long shot), but they had other (arguably better) options.

Look, there is a way out of this nightmare. Unfortunately, it will be a slow process. Democrats/progressives/liberals need to vote in all elections. Not just presidential. Win back those state houses, win city councils, whatever. Just win. And to do that, we need people to run and people to vote.

Anyways, back to Brett…

Here is what annoys me the most about the entire situation. Remember back in December, Al Franken resigned. So many Democrats argued that he had to resign due to the allegations against him because it would give Dems the moral high ground. Well, we had the high ground…how did that work out? I get that these are not the same situations, but come on….do you really think if roles were reversed that Republicans would not be screaming about morality and how the Dems are awful people.

This is the thing the left does not seem to get: the Republicans are not going to play fair. They are like Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown. Democrats fall for it every time. Wait until Trump wins reelection and in his final year, there is another Supreme Court opening…do you think the Republicans will be like “oh hey, it would not be prudent for us to hear a nomination at this time, we shall wait until the next president takes office.” HAHAHAHA yeah right.

Sorry, back to Brett. Obviously none of us know what happened in that room. But as many people have said, you cannot find Ford’s testimony credible and then say “but we believe Brett.” Oh I know, there were inconsistencies in her story. What about his inconsistencies? I guess those do not count.

It is over. Brett is on the court. At least John Oliver can have fun with it…
