2020 Democratic Primary: Joe Biden

Who: Joe Biden, former Vice President of the United States

Slogan: “Our best days still lie ahead”

Positive: Everyone knows Joe Biden. He has been in politics since the Coolidge administration. He basically is the Democratic establishment. He is very moderate and resonates well with older, white voters particularly in the Rust Belt. And he has deep support in the black community because of his ties to President Obama. At the moment he is polling the best against Trump, but those kinds of polls should be taken with a grain of salt this far out.

Negative: Joe can be his own worst enemy. People like to joke about his gaffs, but it is a problem. Since he has been around forever, his voting record will definitely be used against him. Some of it is unfair because of the context, but other stuff is not so easily shrugged off. The party is changing and it will be interesting to see if some voters reject this notion that Joe is changing with the times.

My Thoughts: I keep trying to find a hidden symbol here. I have this feeling that the longer Biden talks, the more he alienates the Left and the younger voters.

Odds: 19/10
The oddsmakers have given Biden a 34.5% chance of winning the nomination. What I said earlier still stands, but I can also see him winning and then losing the general election.
