Weird Star Wars Thought

Remember when Admiral Motti mocks Darth Vader with the line:

“Don’t try to frighten us with your sorcerer’s ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the rebels’ hidden fort-…”

It was cool when you first see it, we get a sneak peak of the power of the Force, but once you see the prequels, it does not make sense, right? It has only been what, 19 years since Order 66 was given. Motti seems old enough to have been alive back then (he is an admiral, that has to take a few years to achieve that rank, unless Vader just murdered so many failed admirals that Motti was all that was left).

This is one of those things that fans like to mention when they say the prequels make no sense relative to ANH. I shall argue against that point. When Order 66 was given, there were about 10,000 Jedi in the galaxy. Estimates say that the galaxy has about 100 quadrillion sentient beings in it. So that means the population of Jedi in the galaxy is about .00000000001%.

Think about that for a minute. There are 2.6 million followers of Zoroastrianism in the world today. That is about .04% of the world’s population. How many of them do you know? Admiral Motti is from the Outer Rim, it is quite possible he has never met a Jedi. He probably knows next to nothing about what they believe in and the difference between Sith/Jedi practices, beliefs, etc.

Basically, I am saying that we should lay off Admiral Motti. He was doing the best he could with limited knowledge!
