I finally decided to catch up with the rest of the world and purchase an Amazon Echo Dot. I am weird, sometimes I am all about emerging technology and then at other times, I just do not see the point. The smart speaker thing just seemed dumb to me.
Granted, we were probably one of the last people on the planet to get Amazon Prime. However, since we did about a year ago, I kept warming up to the idea of using Alexa. So when Adam2 told me that the Echo Dot was on sale for $25, I decided to order one.
I have it all set up and look forward to using it. I tested out for a bit tonight, played Pandora, connected it to my phone so I could listen to podcasts while I do the dishes (pretty much the most important feature), called Lindsey (then I hung up on her), asked about the score of the Pirates game, checked the weather, and all the normal stuff people do when they get one of these things.
We are slowly marching into the 21st century here at the Croyle residence…who knows where the future will lead us!
The best use of the thing? Grocery list. I use OurGroceries.
How does that work? We usually use the Walmart pickup order…can they sync up?
I say “Alexa, ask OurGroceries to add milk to the Shop Rite list” or something. Alexa has apps you can install, and they’re called “skills”. The OurGroceries app works great, you just have to word things exactly right.
