Coco…

We finally got around to watching Coco tonight. I wanted to see it for awhile, but every time I would ask Payton if she wanted to watch it, she would say no and force us to watch something else (usually Frozen 2 or Aladdin).

I enjoy all of these movies, so it is not like some torturous experience for me. It was one of the things I looked forward to about having kids. I mean, there are other things too, but a definite plus is being able to watch Disney & Pixar films without feeling like a weirdo.

I knew that Coco would have a sad ending. I think the ending is fairly telegraphed about midway through (at least part of it, there was still a bit of a surprise that I will not spoil). Despite knowing what was coming, I still could not escape the tears. I have mentioned numerous times how television shows and movies make me cry like a baby. Well, this was no exception. For those that have seen the movie, you know the part. It was not just a few tears, it was full on streams of tears running down my cheeks.

I think it hit me with the way music connects us to memories of loved ones. I thought about Dad & Gram, and the different music we shared together. Those positive memories that a song can evoke, sometimes not even a song that you necessarily would think. For me, there are some really random songs that remind me of Dad. Everyone knows that he loved John Prine and I have talked about that a few times on here. And there is Bob Dylan. But a song that will probably shock people is this one…

Yeah, Dad loved that “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes. Whenever I hear it, I think about him telling us about this song, then later in the night, he saw it on MTV or VH1 and made all of us come listen to it. Once he knew the bands name, I am pretty sure he went out the next day and bought the CD.

So yeah, I highly recommend Coco. I will leave you with this song from the movie…
