Holy crap! I think most of us Rebels fans have been waiting for Ahsoka Tano to make her debut since the moment it was announced that Rosario Dawson would be playing the former padawan of Anakin Skywalker. The episode did not disappoint us.
The character looked fantastic and the white lightsabers translated well to live-action. Dawson pulled off the role as an older Ahsoka, who is no longer the impetuous young padawan anymore (we saw her growth in the final season of Clone Wars and the changes in her by the time we see her in Rebels). The maturity and caution is what leads her to say that she will not train Grogu (more on that in a second) because he is too attached to Mando. Those feelings could lead him to the dark side, much like Anakin.
Turns out the child (or Baby Yoda) has an actual name and a backstory. His name is Grogu and he was a Youngling at the Jedi Temple. He hid when Anakin was murdering all the kids and he concealed his abilities while on the run (I wonder if we will see a little about his history eventually). Some people are not happy with the name, but I do not think there was ever going to be a name that made people happy.
I enjoyed the battle between the magistrate and Ahsoka, but I find it a little unbelievable that Ahsoka could battle Vader to a draw, but had trouble with this lady. Maybe she was a little rusty or maybe the magistrate is just an extremely skilled fighter. Either way, it was a cool lightsaber vs. other weapon battle.
And what did we learn from that battle? Ahsoka is hunting for Grand Admiral Thrawn. For those that do not remember, the last time we saw him, was when Ezra Bridger and Thrawn jumped to hyperspace with the Purrgils and ended up who knows where. It appears that Thrawn has returned and Ahsoka is searching for him. Could this be part of her mission to find Ezra? Remember, at the end of Rebels, after the events of ROTJ, she shows up and asks Sabine to help her find Ezra. Is this that quest?
Mando and Grogu are going to Tython, which is the location of the first Jedi temple. I am guessing Grogu will be visited by some Force ghosts to help him figure out his path. I wonder if they will find any other remaining Jedi?
