Payton & Me and The Quest to See a Movie

I love going to the movies. Definitely been one of the things I have missed during the pandemic (I went to see Tenet back when it came out, that was the last time). Last week I decided that I would take Payton to see Raya and the Last Dragon on Monday since I was off and Lindsey was daylight, so she could watch Logan.

I told Payton about my plan yesterday and she was excited. She kept asking how long until we go to the movie. It was tough containing her energy all day while we waited for Lindsey to get home from work. We all went to the Mexican restaurant for dinner (Payton loves chips and cheese dip), and then we split up to go to the movie.

I looked up the time, but never noticed the date. We got to the theater and the doors were locked. I checked my phone again and realized my mistake: theaters are not open all week, just having shows on the weekend. UGHHH. Payton was so upset.

I called Lindsey and we went to Sweet Frogs for ice cream (c’mon, that makes everything better, right?). Then we came home and once Logan was in bed, I purchased the movie on Disney+. I made popcorn for Payton and I, then we watched the movie. It was not the same as being in the theater, but it was still a great night with my daughter.

The movie was pretty great. I think it was probably aimed at kids a little older than Payton, but she still liked it. The weirdest thing was that there were no songs. I mean, it fit the movie, but it is still weird to not have a character sing about something in a Disney movie.

I loved the world that was created for this movie. I feel like there could be a bunch of side movies set in this world. The different lands and their respective cultures and histories. It was all very interesting.
