Fact One: Signed the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which set up the territories of Kansas and Nebraska and it would give the local settlers the right to decide if the territory would allow slavery or not. This would basically nullify the Missouri Compromise.
Fact Two: This president was so well liked by his party that they nominated someone else to be president after his first term.
Fact Three: The Gadsden Purchase! Imagine how weird our map would be without that little nugget down there. This president wanted more initially and had to accept the deal after an unauthorized military expedition.
Fact Four: This president tried to buy Cuba! Or at least he had a plan to buy Cuba from Spain for $120 million, but members of Congress from the North opposed the plan because they feared another slave state.
Fact Five: This president was a distant relative of future president, George W. Bush.
