Did you watch the season finale of This Is Us? If you did, you saw the beginning (and the end) when Kevin is practicing a wedding speech in the mirror. He then does a Princess Bride reference (“marriage, marriage is what brings us together today.”). It was an amazing moment for me. Why you ask?
I did that exact joke for my Best Man speech at my brother’s wedding just last Friday! I freaked out when I saw the scene and started laughing. Personally, I think my impression was much better than Kevin’s, but he has me beat in the abs department.
I did not plan to write much about the finale, but I have to talk about the ending. If you remember, we had the flash-forward where we saw Rebecca dying. Toby is there and he has no wedding ring. Kate is not there. Why not? Well, there was another flash-forward, this time only five years in the future. How do I know? Kevin says he is a 45 year old man.
He bursts into the room where the bride is getting ready. He wants to know if movie quotes are acceptable. Madison is there and she chastises him for coming in. She is a bridesmaid as is Beth. The bride is Kate. When Kevin leaves the room, he runs into Philip and we learn they are about to become brother-in-laws. Whoa! Philip the music teacher and Kate. I did enjoy his rejection of her resignation.
I feel like there will be some very big moments in the final season. Kevin has to start the Big Three Construction company (I wonder if Miguel will help him out, I would hope so)…since his speech was written on paper from the company. Obviously Toby & Kate will split at some point. Will Kevin find the love he wants so badly? Will Madison find the love she deserves? Beth will get a job at a dance studio and it looks like Randall will have a great political career (mayor of Philly? Governor of PA? Senator?). Oh, and Uncle Nicky will be married.
