Random Randomness

Sometimes I want to write about a bunch of stuff, but I just do not have time to make a post. Or there is not enough there for me to write about. Soooo, you get one of these posts about everything.

The Internet Sucks
I hate the Internet. More specifically, I hate Twitter. Okay, that might be a little extreme. I just hate this trend that happens on the Internet (it usually starts on Twitter–or it probably starts somewhere else, but then comes to Twitter, then to everywhere else…whatever) where someone rips on something that is popular or that most people enjoy and then everyone has to jump on the bandwagon.

Here is an example: Batman. Everyone loves Batman, but a year or so ago, someone posted a joke about how Bruce Wayne could have fixed Gotham City’s crime problem by investing his wealth in social programs instead of dressing up like a bat and beating the shit out of criminals. It was a funny Tweet and there is some truth to it. However, it would not make a very good comic book…watching Bruce Wayne coordinating with government agencies to set up better children’s youth services and helping to fund after school programs. This started as a joke, but then people took it too far. Anytime someone mentions Batman, some hip asshole has to bring this point up.

These people spend so much time trying to be clever and funny that they end up shitting all over anything anyone enjoys. Any movie people like there is a group of cool kids who find something to hate about it (usually a few years after and if you go back through their timeline, they loved it when it came out). These people suck and the sad thing is that so many people end up wanting to be like them that the majority of Twitter is just people trying to start the next big shit-on-something moment (this is how you get people scouring athletes, celebrities, politicians timelines trying to find something to shit on so they can feel cool).

Golf Round
I have mentioned before how I do not hit it very far. I used to think I hit it way below average, but when I saw those averages a few years ago, for my handicap, I am about where most people are. Honestly, it does not matter to me. The cool thing though is that I kinda figured out the reason behind my lack of power. It goes back to when I started playing golf. My dad told me to aim about a half an inch behind the ball. He was told this by a friend because he would top the ball. I never had that problem, but he just assumed that was where you should aim.

I have been practicing in the yard hitting my sand wedge with some of those yellow practice balls. I have been working on hitting the ball first and it has definitely paid off. I hit my irons much cleaner and they go a bit further (do not worry, I am still not a big hitter).

I also do not hit my driver because my slice is so awful and it just ends up way right. I have been watching Rick Shiels videos and a few of them address a slice and proper driver setup. Another thing I noticed was when I played my golf game in the living room that if I kept my wrists straight, my drives would go straight. Sooooo…yesterday while I was at Richland Greens, I decided to give it a shot. Again, thinking about striking the ball without hitting the ground and all those Rick tips. Guess what? It worked! Straight drives between 240-260 yards.

I ended up shooting 43 yesterday. The greens were super slow and I left a few putts short. Either way, I felt really good about the round. I hit a bunch of shots that I liked.

RDJ
Another annoying internet thing: someone said the MCU would have been just as successful with any witty actor as Tony Stark because the whole thing is built on being a fan of the characters, not the actors. It is such a stupid take! If Iron Man fails, then we probably do not get anymore movies. Okay, we still get The Incredible Hulk, which probably fails big time. These failures cause them to scrap  the entire idea and Disney never buys Marvel. Yes, maybe some other actor could have pulled off Tony Stark. Maybe another director makes a great movie. But we will never know. We got Robert Downey Jr. and he was perfect.

Pirates Future
Tell me if you have heard this before:
The new GM has come in and rebuilt the Pirates from the ground up. He has completely restocked the minor leagues after the previous regime left it a barren wasteland. The window for winning is like two years down the road. This GM is a genius and the last guy was an idiot.

Yeah, we heard all this before. Go back to any of those cool Pirates blogs from back in the day and you would have read something like this about Neal Huntington fixing the mistakes of Dave Littlefield.

Do not get me wrong, I am rooting for Ben Cherington to turn things back around get the Pirates winning again. I like the moves he has been making for the most part. Although, before we call him a genius, I would point out that trading guys away for prospects is probably the easy part (remember NH did the same thing those first few years). Developing a draft strategy is also another big thing, but again…this might be somewhat easy (again NH was praised for drafting a bunch of HS pitchers and paying them bigger bonuses so they would sign instead of going to college…and he broke the draft system by doing this with Josh Bell), but the main thing is can Cherington and his staff develop some of those players, since that is where NH failed. The real test is once they start winning again, can BC sustain it.

Pork Loin
I made a delicious pork loin the other day. I used some seasoning I bought at Myrtle Beach and wrapped them in bacon. Tossed those bad boys on the Pit Boss and let them cook. I am awesome.

Kids Toothpaste
Why are kids so annoying about their toothpaste? I swear we have bought every kind of toothpaste for kids imaginable for Payton. There is only one kind she likes. Any other kind and she ends up screaming and throwing a fit (well at least she did when she was little). Now she would just cry and tell us no that she is not brushing her teeth. And guess what? Logan is the same damn way. And yeah, he likes a different brand.

  1. Truer words have never been spoken: “Why are kids so annoying about their toothpaste?”
At one point, they discontinued the toothpaste my daughter uses and I could only find it on EBay for like $80. Who sells toothpaste on EBay for eighty dollars? Who actually spends that? Yeah – they had to deal with some different fruity-brand toothpaste.
