Know Your President: Week Thirty-Seven

Party: Republican

Fact One: Increased the deficit by introducing major tax cuts.

Could I make this one any easier?

Fact Two: He took education reform very seriously and worked with opposite party leaders to craft a bill that tried to make both sides happy. The president wanted school vouchers, but agreed to drop it in favor of his nationwide testing. Despite what many people say about the bill nowadays, it garnered major support from both parties in both sides of Congress.

Fact Three: Watch what you say on the phone or send in an email. This president signed a law that gave intelligence agencies greater domestic authority.

Fact Four: He passed a significant healthcare bill that allowed Medicare to cover the cost of prescription drugs. Both parties opposed this one. The Democrats did not like it because it did not allow Medicare to negotiate the price of the drugs (damn, we are still fighting about this today!) and the Republicans hated it because it helped people (just kidding, they were against the government’s expansion into healthcare).

Fact Five:  ________ did 9/11

Quotes:
“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.”
“When I take action, I’m not going to fire a $2 million missile at a $10 empty tent and hit a camel in the butt. It’s going to be decisive.”
“To those of you who received honours, awards and distinctions, I say well done. And to the C students, I say you, too, can be president of the United States.”
