Best of 2021: Favorite Logan Moment

Logan can be very shy. At the beginning of the year we tried a running thing. They would line kids up by age and have them run a short race. Logan would not participate. Every week he would be excited to go and then get there and start crying when it was time to run. It was bad enough that a few parents stopped me at daycare and made comments like “hey, we are really pulling for Logan this week!” or “hopefully this is the week he finally runs.” He was like a little celebrity, but for social anxiety.

Then came soccer. The summer session was rough. He would cry and hide behind Lindsey or me. Then after a few weeks, he started listening to the coach and actually kicking the ball. One of us would have to hold his hand though and if he strayed too far from us, he would freak out.

And then there was fall soccer (which started a few weeks after the summer one ended). It was like a different kid showed up for it. Logan was the loudest kid when the coach (it was a different coach for this class) would ask something. He started the class wanting us to follow him, but by the end of it he would just run on his own. He likes doing the big kicks, but I think he really just likes screaming “BIG KICKS!”

It was such a cool moment to see the change in him. During this time he also became more outgoing in other ways. When we pick Payton up from preschool, Logan will be crazy and silly in the hallway while we wait. He talks to the girl who cuts his hair. When he leaves the shop, he will be like “bye bye, see you later!”

Do not get me wrong, he is still shy. He still freezes up around guys for some reason. The other day while getting his haircut, he was talking away, but then the owner came over and started asking him questions. Logan tensed up and stared at the floor. He also freaks out around my Pap, which is crazy since kids always love him.

But my favorite moment has been seeing the change in him. I have no clue if he will continue to become less shy, but it is nice to see where he has progressed.
