The Flood

Our basement flooded again. Yeah, I know, it sucks. When the last flood struck our house (back in September), we had someone come out and fix the issue. While they were at it, we had them add a battery backup to the sump pump, so we did not have a repeat of the first flood. Obviously nothing works and we must have angered Hapi.

I had to take Payton to the doctor on Friday morning for her vaccine, and as I was putting my shoes on, Payton said “Dad, there is water on the floor!” I turned and could see the basement was completely flooded. We went to the doctors and when I came back, Lindsey was trying to find someone to come get the water out.

She called the fire department, but they did not get back to us. I called the contractor who did the work last time and he said he would send someone out to look at the sump pump. I told him that there was about eight inches of water. So the guy comes out, he is wearing tennis shoes. He looks at the water and goes “oh, that is a lot of water, I didn’t bring boots.” Umm, not my problem. Get to fixin’. It took him a bit, but he eventually got the pump running again. It took about an hour or so, but the water finally drained from the basement.

Lindsey and I cleaned up the mess. I called the carpet installer and canceled that order. We spoke to our insurance…not covered, cool! Then we noticed the heat and hot water was not working. Yep, the water was high enough to mess things up. I tried to light them, but it did not work. So I called another guy and he came out. He fixed our furnace and took the hot water tank apart to allow it to dry. The next morning he came back and was able to get it running. Unfortunately it cost us a decent amount of money. Ughhhhhh.

The joys of owning a home.
