History Fact: This city is steeped in history. It was first inhabited during the Chalcolithic. The Dardanians made it their capital for a time. Then it fell to the Romans, particularly as a colony of legionnaires (veterans of the Legio VII Claudia). It later became part of the Byzantine Empire and eventually fell into the hands of the Kingdom of Bulgaria and then bounced around multiple peoples. In WWI the city was taken by the Bulgarians, but ended up being aided by France, Britain, Greece, and Italy. During WWII the Germans took the city. 
Air Fact: This city is one of the most polluted cities in the world. Why you ask? Lots of cars, buses, industry, and a general lack of caring about the environment. 
Economics Fact: The city industry is dominated by food processing, textile, printing, and metal processing. 
Famous Citizen: Mother Teresa was born in this city and lived there for eighteen years.
