Kenobi (Novel)

A friend told me I should I read Kenobi by John Jackson Miller. I read it while at the beach and it was fantastic. I can see why so many people thought/hoped this story would be adapted for the TV show (I will discuss that at the end). The story is non-canonical and tells the story of Obi-Wan coming to Tatooine and the adventures he gets in as he tries to shed himself of his Jedi persona and become Ben Kenobi.

Set right after Obi-Wan delivers Luke to the Lars homestead, we find Ben trying to set himself up on the outskirts a small community. The story focuses on him and Annileen, a woman who owns and runs a trading post/restaurant/bar type place. No matter where Ben goes, he finds himself embroiled in the troubles of others. He cannot stop being a Jedi. If you enjoyed the show, I highly recommend reading this book (hell, if you hated the show, I recommend it even more).

Okay, so back to the show. I think they could adapt this into the second season. There are spoilers from here on out.

Once Obi-Wan returns to his place after saving Leia and Luke, he decides to not cut himself off from the Force and keep his skill honed for the time when the twins are ready to be trained. Around this time, Annileen comes back seeking Ben’s help. She completed the exobiology program that Ben helped get her into. We get flashbacks each episode retelling the story of how they met and the adventure with the Tusken Raiders.

But now, Annileen needs Ben’s help because something has happened to one of her kids. Maybe Jabe is caught up in the Rebellion and was captured by the Empire? Or maybe Kailee, who also is an exobiologist has been out of contact on some remote planet (it would be cool if she discovered a Drengir somewhere and Obi-Wan went to save her, but had to battle against one). Who knows, I am not the show writer. However they would do it, it should end with Annileen telling Ben that she still loves him and that she would spend her life with him if he wanted. He says something like “my duty is almost over and when it ends, perhaps I will come to Alderaan to visit you.” That will make the look on Obi-Wan’s face have even more meaning when he sees the planet is destroyed.
