42 and the Week that Was

42…or the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. Yep, I am 42 years old now. This year did not mean too much, aside from being such a grand number. We celebrated my birthday with some family (cake and pumpkin cookies, plus Lindsey made chili and cheesesteaks) and some football. Perfect kind of day.

It was actually a pretty great week. We were on vacation this week. Most of the week was just me doing work in the basement. I was able to get the walls painted and the flooring put back down. Now I am painting the doors, which is a process. Like six coats per side.

We also did a bunch of family stuff. We had a fire and watched Encanto, went to PotatoFest and the Lantern Festival at the Pittsburgh Zoo. Spent a day in Altoona shopping (not intentional, but the weather ruined some other plans). I went golfing a day (yeah, it was just playing nine at Richland real quick one morning, but whatever, I got to go out). We went to Weakland’s Farm for the corn maze and to pick pumpkins.

Yesterday we went to the Penn State game. I got free tickets from work and we thought it would be fun to take the kids. I was in denial about the weather (my phone’s forecast said the rain would stop around 4:00) and we were prepared more for light misting as opposed to a downpour all day. Work was supposed to send me a parking pass, but it did not arrive in time, so we had to park in the regular lots and walk. We were soaked by the time we got to Beaver Stadium. Our seats were amazing, but the kids were cold and wet. Lindsey and Payton went for a walk midway through the first quarter and Logan sat on my lap. He started whining that he wanted them to come back. I said we would go find them. We stood there for a bit and it was a little into the second quarter when I made a decision to leave. We ended up heading to my brother’s house, but first we had to stop at Target to get some dry clothes.

Yeah, being 42 ain’t too bad. I could spend more weeks like this.
