I was looking for something new to read, when a friend suggested The Last Smile in Sunder City by Luke Arnold. It is the first book in the series, The Fetch Phillips Archives. It is like a 1930s noir mixed with fantasy. The main character is a private investigator, who needs to find a missing vampire.
The world-building in this book is incredible. The magic in this world went away a few years ago, and the magical creatures have lost their power (and in many cases their lives). Fetch Phillips has a complicated history, and we learn about some of it throughout the book.
I would recommend this as an audiobook, since Luke Arnold reads the book (he is an actor from the show Black Sails), he does some great voices for characters, and it really brings Fetch to life.
