Supernatural: A Decent Story …Almost

I continue to watch Supernatural. It is not very good. In fact, it has not been very good for a few seasons now, but I still watch it each and every week. At this point, I feel like I am too invested to give up on it.

This season has been pretty weak for the most part. The whole Jack being sick, whatever is going on with Dean, the side story of Michael’s plan, or the other universe hunters…these are all shitty plot lines.

However, there is one thread that has been fantastic: the story of Nick as he seeks out his wife and son’s murderer. Quick reminder, Nick is the vessel of Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino), who is himself now that Lucifer is dead. He has been looking for the person that murdered his family and while questioning people, he ends up murdering them. Or torturing, then murdering. He is basically becoming a serial killer. He almost murdered a girl that was flirting with him.

This story was great. It was dark and a bit scary. When Nick takes the hammer to the cops head in the last episode, it was pretty intense. And I was really excited to see where this was going. Unfortunately, the series decided to screw it up.

By the end of the episode, we see Nick praying and at first we are meant to think he is praying to God, but it turns out that he is asking Lucifer to come back. Then they cut to that black place that we saw Castiel in one time and a body is forming, as Nick continues to pray the body forms completely and the eyes pop open, glowing red. So it looks like Lucifer is back. Blahhhhh.

I really wish they would have went down a road of Nick becoming a serial killer, but all the while still searching for the demon who possessed the cop. Maybe a descent into madness type of story, where we are horrified by him, but also, sort of rooting for him.

Oh well, they almost had a good arc…
