Who: Andrew Yang. Rich guy who did stuff with startups.
Slogan: “Humanity First”
Positive: He has some great ideas about a universal basic income (I believe $1000 per month) to help offset the workforce disruption of automation. He supports single-payer healthcare and has a policy for gun-control. He has good ideas and after watching his town hall, he definitely has potential.
Negative: He will probably be known as the circumcision guy. He came out as being opposed to male circumcision (I am not sure he is wrong, we had Logan circumcised and afterwards, it really made me question the decision).
My Thoughts: I think he should set his sights a little lower. He is from New York, he should run for Senate. Or governor. Maybe he should move to another state and challenge a Republican senator (Democrats need to win back the Senate). I think he would be a good person to include in another candidate’s cabinet.
Odds: 18:1
The betting markets give him a decent shot. That is like a 5% shot, which is not awful when you consider the sheer number of candidates. He does have the cool YangGang thing going for him, so maybe he can make a push. I think his chances improved after that town hall on CNN and he could move himself into that upper echelon by having a good debate.
