Game of Thrones: The Bells

I will start every one of these posts off with this warning about spoilers. There will be plenty of spoilers. Seriously, if you have not watched the episode, do not read this post. I will also be mentioning stuff from the books. These are not straight up recaps of episodes, nor are they reviews. I will just mention the stuff I liked/disliked and probably give some opinions about what could happen next.

Damn! That was such an intense episode. I felt like vomiting watching Daenerys snap and destroy King’s Landing. The way we see the women and children incinerated by dragonfire…well I do not think there is any coming back from that. Honestly though, the Daenerys fall was not totally out of nowhere. She has always had a temper and had to be talked down by her advisers. Think back to when she wanted to crucify the masters.

-The battle between the Clegane Brothers ended up living up to expectations. I loved the little speech the Hound gives Arya and then she calls him Sandor. It was pretty much what he always wanted, someone to see him as a person, as more than the Hound. And then he overcomes his fear of fire in order to defeat his brother. I loved it.

-I loved how they did the whole Arya/Sandor scenes. Cutting between him and her being pummeled from their respective battles (his against the Mountain, her trying to save anyone as the city is destroyed).

-Glad to see that Daenerys listened to me about how to destroy the Iron Fleet with those scorpions. She made short work of them this time. It pays off to not be cocky and think you are invincible.

-Looks like the Golden Company was a bit of a red herring. We all thought there was a huge significance of them being there. And then they died easily. This looks like it will be something that we get to see more of in the books.

-Was I the only one who felt bad for Cersei? I mean, yeah she is awful and deserved to die, but maybe that just shows how good of an actress Lena Headey is, that she can make you feel sad for someone who totally deserves to die.

-I know people are upset about the Jaime character arc and how he ends up just going back to Cersei. I think that is the tragedy of Jaime Lannister. No matter how much he grows and changes, or how much he proves that he is a man of honor, in the end he loves his sister. He loves Cersei more than anything and he will do anything for her.

-I was wrong about Euron’s death, but I enjoyed the fight between him and Jaime.

-I was sad that Varys died the way he did. Poor guy just wanted to protect the common folk.

-So what will happen in the series finale? I honestly have no clue at this point. Obviously Jon is going to lead an army against Daenerys, but I think Arya will be the one to kill her. I am guess there is no Iron Throne anymore, so maybe Jon will just split everything up into regional kingdoms. Gendry rules the Stormlands, Sansa gets the North, Tyrion goes to Casterly Rock, etc…

-I feel like the people who are complaining about this season have not been paying attention. This show was never going to have some happy ending. It was not going to have the typical fantasy ending, where Jon and Dany marry and rule Westeros together.
