After Nittany Lion’s frustrating loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, it seems that the playoff standings are due for a bit of a shakeup. Here is how I think the new rankings will turn out.
- Ohio State (9-0)–They destroyed Maryland and will most likely retain the number one spot.
- LSU (9-0)–They beat Alabama, they could end up jumping to the top spot.
- Clemson (10-0)–They crushed North Carolina State and benefited from two of the teams ahead of them losing.
- Alabama (8-1)–There are two undefeated Power Five schools out there, but I cannot justify dropping the number three team out of the top four when they lose a close one to number two.
- Minnesota (9-0)–They took down the number four team. Yes, their schedule has been fairly easy until that point, but they won those games. Being undefeated is hard.
- Baylor (9-0)–Again, another Power Five school is undefeated and they keep winning. They play Oklahoma this week, so it may not matter if they lose.
- Penn State (8-1)–A little bias here, but I think a loss to an undefeated team is better than a loss to a crappy team.
- Georgia (8-1)–Probably good that they lost to South Carolina…can you imagine trying to figure out where they belong.
- Oregon (8-1)–They do have a good loss, but no great wins. They keep chugging along and if the teams above them keep losing, they have a clear path into the top four. Keep winning and it could happen.
- Utah (8-1)–The Pac-12 championship game should be interesting.
- Oklahoma (8-1)–They almost lost to Iowa State. They have a test this week. They must defeat Baylor or it is over for them.
- Florida (8-2)
- Auburn (7-2)
- Michigan (7-2)
- Cinncinnati (8-1)
- Wisconsin (7-2)
- Notre Dame (7-2)
- Memphis (8-1)
- Boise State (8-1)
- SMU (9-1)
- Indiana (7-2)
- Navy (7-1)
- Iowa (6-3)
- Texas (6-3)
- Oklahoma State (6-3)
Honestly, after number eleven, it probably does not matter, but I like to see if I belong on the playoff committee.
