The Mandalorian: Chapter One

The first episode was definitely well worth the wait. The show is basically a western (Sergio Leone fans will definitely feel the influence) set in the Star Wars universe. Our eponymous hero is a bounty hunter and we immediately learn he is not to be trifled with. He quickly dispatches some foes in order to collect his bounty.

My favorite part is when he meets with the Client (played by Werner Herzog) and takes the bounty that will probably kick off some grand adventure. The Client is from the Empire and he has some stormtroopers with him. Naturally we get a standoff between the Mandalorian and them. At one point, one of the troopers says it is four to one and the Mandalorian responds that he likes those odds. I love it.

Anyways, onto the big reveal. If you have not watched the episode then I highly suggest you stop reading. Seriously, there will be a major SPOILER…

The Mandalorian succeeds in tracking down the bounty the Empire is willing to pay a huge sum for and the fifty year old is protected by a small cadre of soldiers. The Mandalorian takes them down with the help of IG-11. They find a small bassinet that is holding a small, infant like alien. The being looks like a young Yoda. IG-11 attempts to terminate the being, but the Mandalorian kills the droid instead.

So many damn questions! The Star Wars universe has kept Yoda’s species a secret or unknown. All we do know is that there are others and they have all been Jedi. Are these beings rare and are the extremely Force sensitive? Does the dying Empire want to raise one and hopefully use it for their own purposes? Does the show tie into the next Star Wars film? Does Snoke or (maybe a resurrected Palpatine?) know of this creature and want it dead?

I cannot wait to see where this goes!

  1. Three things.

One. I love that they referenced Life Day. I cracked up.

Two. Just saw your site “second longest running personal blog” and said “yessss.”
