Westworld Season 3 Thoughts

This season of Westworld was incredible. I enjoyed that they moved away from the multiple timelines and just focused on the characters. Everything wrapped up so nicely and I honestly thought it was the end of the series (this show does endings very well, each season could have been the last and I feel like it would have been okay, and yet the further along the story goes, the more this world opens up for us).

I think my favorite thing about this show has been the progression. Season one focused on the park and we learned that some of the hosts were becoming self-aware. I wonder if the creators realized early on that Evan Rachel Wood was amazing as Dolores and they should focus the entire story on her. I am always curious as to how shows evolve and whether or not the writers had all of this in mind from the beginning.

The next season was about trying to clean up the mess that Dolores started inside the park and keeping the hosts from escaping. We learned that the purpose of the park was to collect data on people. I think this season would have been created right after the Cambridge Analytica news broke. After that, this season moves to the next stage. What would someone do with that data? As we are seeing from tech companies, they use our data to predict our behavior…now imagine being able to predict everything about a person. What would that look like?

So where will season four go? Obviously the end-credit scene showed Hale building an army of hosts, so she will be waging her war on humans. If this season was about free will, what will the next question be? Whatever it is, I cannot wait.
