Of Sand and Snow

The fifth book in the The Wings of War series by Bryce O’Connor was fairly predictable and felt like O’Connor was just trying to get done with this series so he can focus on other projects. I hope I am wrong and the next book will be something more intriguing or exciting.

There will be spoilers from here on out. So if you have not read the book yet, then I would probably stop here and go read it. I enjoy this series and feel like there are plenty of stories to tell in this world.

I think my biggest complaint was how it was obvious that Raz and Syrah would be joined in battle by the Northmen. There were a few references to Syrah’s ink and to the letters she was sending…who else would she be writing to for help? Also, when the Atherian look to be losing their battle in the mountains, it was just too obvious that Raz and his troops would swoop in to save the day.

I hope the next book focuses more on the Laorin magic and how Lazura regained her power. Remember, she did something to the old woman (Raz’s grandmother, was that her title?) and that is how she got her power back. Not sure this new explanation about her sucking the soul from people works to explain that problem.
