I was watching the new Cosmos and saw the Jeep ad featuring Carl Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot.” My immediate reaction was annoyance that Jeep would use Sagan that way.
To be fair, I barely noticed that it was a Jeep commercial until the Jeep is on the cliff above the clouds. It turns out the commercial is for the new electric Wrangler (which is pretty cool).
Anyways, my outrage subsided when I went online and learned that Anne Druyan (Sagan’s wife) gave permission, but when approached a few years ago she said not for an internal-combustion engine. The company decided to try again when they developed an electric version.
Also, they are donating money for every complete viewing of the video. So go ahead, watch it.
