Best of 2020: Favorite Payton Moment

Payton keeps growing up. She is almost four years old now and the change from the beginning of the year to now is amazing. I think the pandemic has probably been the hardest on her. During those first few months when Lindsey was laid off, Payton did not understand why she could not go to school or see her friends. Lindsey tried to keep her entertained, but it was definitely tough.

Once the weather shifted, I was able to put together the playground. I loved watching Payton play on it. In the beginning she was all about going down the slide, then she started playing in the upper part. Later, she would play in the bottom part (she would have us sit on the other side and she would be the cooker and she would serve us food). By middle of the summer, she really wanted to swing. Most nights we would go out and she would ask for me to swing her high (actually she loves to say “swing me as high as Em”).

This was the first time she went down the slide…I was nervous the whole thing would fall apart

I may not have had the most fun putting the damn thing together, but seeing Payton get so much joy out of it, well it was definitely worth it. Side note, Logan also loves it. He started climbing the steps himself and loves his little swing.

There were a few other great moments this year with Payton. I was proud of her when she started spelling her name. She always wants to help me with the house projects that Lindsey assigns me. Also a great moment was the first time I told her to get me a Coke from the fridge and she actually did it. A not so fun moment was when we took a hike and she cried about being tired the entire way back and I had to carry her the last mile or two.
