Wonder Woman 1984

Talk about a major letdown. I loved the first movie. I was so excited for this one and when it was over, I just was like “meh.” Before I get into what I liked and disliked, I need to warn everyone that there will be spoilers from here on out…

-The special effects sucked. I think that was the start of my dislike. I realize the fight scene in the mall was supposed to be campy, which would have been okay, but the way they kept having WW soar through the air on her lasso looked idiotic. In the first movie and Justice League, the way she moved looked realistic (okay, I realize how dumb it sounds saying a person flipping a tank or whatever looks realistic), but this time her movements looked bad. At one point she lasso’d a lightning bolt!

-I actually liked the plot overall. The idea of granting wishes and taking what means the most to the person. I especially enjoyed Max Lord using his wish to become the Dreamstone. I also liked having Steve Trevor, while Diana slowly loses her powers.

-The way they defeated Lord though, that was weird. Making him realize his truth and then renouncing his wish. I liked that it was tied to his son, but I thought for sure his son would be the one to wish for something like “I want everything to go back to normal” or “I want my dad to be happy with me.” And as the wish happens, his dad dies (because he means the most to his son).

-I hate that DC movies insist on having a swirling vortex during the boss fight scene. What the hell was happening that it became a giant tornado inside the building?

-I thought Kristen Wiig was fantastic as Barbara Minerva. She pulled off the sexy look more than I thought she could. I always thought of her as attractive, but not like super hot. I definitely did a “wow” when her wish was granted.

-That being said, I thought Cheetah looked awful. I was excited for this and was really hoping for a super sexy looking cat lady (god, that sounds so fucked up). Instead she looked weird. I should probably stop now.

-Pedro Pascal! Is he great in everything? I think so. I am not going to lie, I had a tear in my eye at the end when he gives his kid a hug. And I was mad at Max when he screamed about his son being at the office.

-I thought it was weird they did not use the scene of Wonder Woman killing Maxwell Lord which ends up being broadcast…

So yeah, the movie was not nearly as awful as some people are saying, but it was definitely nowhere near as good as the first one. It was just…meh.
