I do not understand people. Cambria County is one of the worst counties in the country right now for increase in cases. The massive surge is putting a strain on the hospital and all testing facilities in the area. And yet, the people around here cannot get it through their heads to take this serious.
There were rumors today that Governor Wolf was going to announce today that there would be restrictions. People were freaking out and saying that they would not listen to some lock down this time and they do not care if he puts limitations on Christmas. Even though it looks like those Thanksgiving get togethers probably helped increase the number of cases.
We took a pretty big chance for Thanksgiving by going to see family. I do not think we can risk it again for Christmas. We rolled those dice and we managed to not roll a seven, but the more times we roll them, those odds of success decrease.
I understand people’s frustration. The early lock down felt pointless for so many people in the rural areas. The cases were almost nonexistent in those areas and it just took a long time for COVID to reach them. And yet, here it is and things look fairly bleak right now. If things were better (perhaps if the citizenry were a bit smarter), we could have done things different. Perhaps if there was smart contact tracing early (and people trusted an app like that), they could have kept areas opened that had no cases and then closed them if cases increased to a certain point. It also would have helped if we had a functional government that could have helped offset the cost for people to stay home. But alas, we do not have those things and I fear it is probably too late. We just have to limp to the finish line, which is a vaccine that 40% of people will probably refuse to take. Ugh…
Speaking of Governor Wolf…I enjoyed how when President Trump tested positive, the majority of my liberal friends posted things like “I may hate the guy, but I hope he and his family are okay.” And yet, when Wolf tests positive? My conservative friends and family post things like “I hope the tyrant dies!” Cool.
