The Trouble With Peace

The second book of The Age of Madness Trilogy was even better than the first one (A Little Hatred). I think Abercrombie continues to build an incredibly fun and different fantasy world. If you have never read any of the Joe Abercrombie books, I highly suggest you pick them up. From here on out there will be spoilers…

-I enjoyed that Abercrombie brought back the Shanka. Also really cool that the witch that helps Rikke with her eye has them under her control (or they serve her). She was the witch that served Bethod, Caurib. I wonder if she will play a part later (at some point someone has to do something to Bayaz, right?).

-I want a team-up between Clover and Tunny. They are my favorite characters and I love how they are similar. In fact, a cartoon called The Adventures of Clover & Tunny would be fantastic.

-The book did not end at all like I expected. I figured the battle would come out as a draw or that Orso would lose a major battle and be on the run. Instead, he won (and I was definitely rooting for him) and it was decisive. The rebellion ends and Leo is almost executed. Stour is betrayed by Clover (seriously the best thing ever) and Rikke is in charge of the North.

-However, the real battle is about to begin for King Orso and the Union. It looks like Pike was the Weaver all along and now he has an equipped army to institute change.

I cannot wait for the next book.
