The Light of the Jedi

This was the first book of The High Republic period of Star Wars books. It is set more than 200 years before The Phantom Menace and the galaxy is quite different at that point. We find the Republic to be at it’s height and they are not bogged down by the bureaucracy that seems to plague the later era. The Jedi are also at their peak.

The book is split into two sections. The first is a major disaster: objects emerge from hyperspace and threaten to destroy worlds. Turns out the emerging objects are broken up pieces of a ship. Then the next part of the book deals with further pieces of the ship emerging from hyperspace, but also the Nihil and impending confrontation with the Republic & Jedi. Okay, from here out will be spoilers.

-Okay, so I may not be the best at picking up subtle hints, but Avar Criss and Elzar Mann totally banged when there were padawans, right? She was strongly giving him signals that she was down for a game of sheath the lightsaber when they were at the dedication ceremony. I guess Jedi like to fuck, just do not form an attachment, right?

-Speaking of Starlight Beacon…it has to be destroyed by the Nihil, right? I never heard of it, so I am assuming the Chancellor’s plans to have a bunch of interconnected stations must have failed.

-I totally dig Marchion Ro. When he reveals that he was behind the Legacy Run’s collision and then he sends one of the Tempest’s to die. Oh, and he has Loden Greatstorm imprisoned.

-Ro has other prisoners, who are tortured randomly to provide fear and pain, which make it difficult for Loden to touch the Force. But, what if Loden just gave into the Dark Side? Say he just harnesses that fear and pain, and uses it to free himself and kill Marchion Ro, while then saving the prisoners. Would any of those people be upset that he used the Dark Side? Could the Incredible Hulk be a Jedi? If he is always angry, but he uses his power for good, does it really matter? Damn it, I think about this way too much.

-I wonder what Marchion Ro’s secret is from his past? He has some connection to the Jedi and he definitely blames them for something.

I look forward to checking out some more stuff from this project.
