Know Your President: Week Twenty-Six

Party: Republican

Fact One: Despite being for a free enterprise, this president refused to cut taxes because he was concerned with balancing the budget.

Fact Two: Expanded New Deal programs such as Social Security, minimum wage, and housing. He also created a federal interstate highway system.

Fact Three: Accepted over 200,000 refugees into the country from Europe. Pushed to have illegal immigrants from Mexico deported, sending over a million Mexican illegal immigrants back.

Fact Four: Established NASA (and before that DARPA) in order to compete with the Soviet Union’s space program.

Fact Five: Nominated Earl Warren to the Supreme Court, who wrote the courts unanimous opinion in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education, which ruled that state laws establishing racial segregation in public schools is unconstitutional.
