Ekoostik Hookah

Any Ekoostik Hookah fans out there? The first time I ever heard them was while at Gannon (probably the same time I downloaded Venus 55). I ended up digging “Loner” and I could never seem to find any other songs available for illegal download.

So I did what any 19 year old would do back then. I went to their website and I ordered the album. Yeah, pretty normal, right? It was fantastic and a few years later when Ohio Grown came out, I bought it as well from their site. If you remember from back in those days, buying an album and having it shipped from a band’s site was usually expensive, especially lesser known bands (I bet each album cost about $30 when it was all said and done).

Anyways, after that album, I decided I really wanted to see them in concert, so I bought tickets for a show up in Erie (it was my first time heading up there since transferring to Penn State). The concert was amazing. If you have never seen a jam band, then I highly recommend experiencing it. Every song was fantastic.

Unfortunately, the venue was fairly small and there were plenty of people partaking in some illegal substances. I am not the biggest fan of the marijuana. Seriously, I do not enjoy getting high. I know, some of you are shocked. I have no problem what other people do, but it is just not my bag. That being said…hippies annoy me. At one point, I was just enjoying the music and this dude comes over without a shirt on and he is doing the weird hippy dance and says “hey man, just let the music flow!” I think I was polite at first and said something like “yeah man, the music is great.” And he continues “no bro, you gotta just dance to it, feel it!” Now I was annoyed, so I told the guy to go dance elsewhere. He tried one last time and fortunately the girl that went with me was able to make him go away. I cannot remember what she said to him, probably told him to piss off.

Anyways, it was one of my favorite shows (minus the weird hippy). I would love to see them again sometime, preferably outside…

Also, I highly suggest checking out the entire Ohio Grown album. I may need to head up to the attic and drag my CDs out and put that one in the car (actually, I bet that disc was in my visor holder that I kept in like every car until my last one…it held like 15 CDs that were essential and this was one of them).
